This course surveys various genres, themes, and aesthetic theories that have informed modern and contemporary art. The class approaches this wide array of material through attention to specific themes and/ or various critically defined paradigms and applies these themes/ paradigms to various subjects and media areas including institutional critique, popular culture, photography, painting, sculpture, performance, installation, and video. This course carries a writing intensive (W) designation.
