The overall goal of this research-based course is to isolate, cultivate, characterize, and identify under-explored bacterial lineages from environmental samples. Methods and techniques employed in this course include aseptic techniques, cutting-edge cultivation approaches, maintaining bacterial cultures, gel electrophoresis, DNA isolation, amplification, and sequencing.
