Advanced Chemistry Laboratory I

First course in the Advanced Chemistry Laboratory sequence. Combined lecture/laboratory survey course that focuses on an understanding and application of instrumental techniques in the areas of analytical, physical, and inorganic chemistry. Topics include: (1) components of spectroscopic instrumentation, (2) atomic spectroscopy (atomic absorption, atomic emission, X-ray methods), and (3) molecular spectroscopy (molecular absorption, molecular luminescence, infrared absorption, Raman scattering).
