Introduction to Gangs

This course examines the theoretical and empirical evidence surrounding gang life, gang membership, and recruitment. It will also critically discuss the historical underpinnings surrounding the social construction of gangs throughout U.S. history. At the completion of the course, students will possess a better understanding of the factors associated with the decision to join gangs, gang life, and the misrepresentation of gangs in the media.
