Regulating Vice in American Cities

This course surveys the state regulation of behaviors that seemingly only injure the user - drug use, gambling, obscenity, sex work - but can also be disruptive to the community. The course will examine the theoretical foundations of these culture war issues and the empirical research on local governments' various strategies to curb this behavior.
