World Dance and Culture

This course exposes students to the varied and rich traditions of dance in a wide range of historical and cultural contexts. Students develop a broad appreciation of dance that encompasses a variety of dance practices and traditions, including religious dance, folk dance, court dance, and social dance. Students develop tools for cross-cultural comparison to better understand the human impulse to dance and the social, political, and cultural conditions that support or repress dance expression.
