CourseEH 585

The European Enlightenment was an intellectual and cultural movement in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that emphasized the importance of reasoned, open-eyed investigations into nature and human society. Stimulated by the Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment philosophes prized skepticism and decried superstition and unquestioned faith. They are often credited with providing a theoretical basis for the American and French Revolutions.
