An introduction to fiction as a literary genre. Readings might include short stories, fairy and folktales, and novels by the Brothers Grimm, Kafka, Poe, Twain, Borges, O’Connor, DeLillo, Lahiri or Le Guin. Course emphasizes the ability of fiction to teach us about ourselves, our world, and different ways of thinking and knowing.
