Old English literature in translation studied in the context of Western European culture of the 7th to 11th centuries. Topics include the relations among races, religions, and cultures, ideas of heroism, devotional practices, and feudalism. Texts and genres taken up might include Beowulf, the Old English elegies, saints’ lives, riddles and wisdom literature, and sermons.
