This course will examine the events, personalities, and issues of the Civil Rights Movement in America, 1945 to present. Lectures will consider such themes and topics as the origins of segregation, the impact of World War II on the African American community, the life of Martin Luther King Jr., the Montgomery bus boycott, the Freedom Rides, Brown v. Board of Education, Massive Resistance, the White Citizens' Council movement, ―cultural integration, and the Black Power movement.
