Abolition and Emancipation in the United States

This course will focus on the movement to end slavery in the United States from the Revolutionary Age to the Civil War and Reconstruction era looking at both the abolition movement itself and manumission and emancipation(s) in the Early Republic and during the Civil War Special attention will be given to how the activism and intellectual thought of African Americans shaped the movement.
