This course examines political, economic, and social developments of nineteenthand twentiethcentury Eastern Europe from the Revolutions of 1848 through the collapse of the Soviet bloc and beyond. The course analyzes the impact of the disintegration of Russian, Ottoman, and Habsburg empires on inter-war Eastern Europe; examines the establishment, development, and eventual collapse of communism in the region; and explores the dynamics of post- Cold War European integration.
