Survey of modern Latin American history, with particular attention to social and cultural forms, racial and ethnic interaction, and the region's political trajectory. Includes study of contemporary issues such as popular nationalism, drug trafficking and terrorism, human rights, and the interrelation of free trade and democratic government.
