This course offers an introduction to the biology of cetaceans, focusing on both toothed whales (odontocetes) and baleen whales (mysticetes). Students will explore the evolutionary history, taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, genetics, and behavior of cetaceans, while also examining conservation issues affecting these species. Lab exercises will highlight modern research methods used to study cetaceans, such as acoustic monitoring, genetic analysis, and behavioral observation.
