American State and Local Government

An analysis of state politics/government in terms of changing roles and powers in the system of federalism; issues of democracy (voting, elections, etc.); patterns of power; strengths and weaknesses in policy making; and ongoing debates over state versus federal power. An analysis of local governments in terms of: forms and functions; state control; specific services such as education and mass transit; city problems and policies; and proposals for new regional governments.
