Language and Literacy in Diverse Communities

This course includes the examination of sociolinguistic theories and an introduction to culturally responsive teaching of literacy. Topics address social identity factors, ethnicity, language variation, multilingualism, and the acquisition of academic English with implications for effective literacy instruction.
