The Bible in Popular Culture

This course examines the reception of the Bible in contemporary film, television, music, visual culture, and especially literature. It draws on a diverse range of genres — including poetry, music lyrics, performances and music videos of pop singers, novels, films, television episodes, and artwork— to explore how pop culture deploys biblical narratives, characters, and themes, and to what ends.
