Study of the relationship between mental disorder and society. Issues addressed include the impact of the sociocultural context on the definition of mental disorder, and the distribution of mental disorder among persons based on gender, age, race, social class, and rural or urban residence. Analysis of effects of different forms of social organization and policy on the experiences of those identified as mentally disordered.
