Musical Theatre History

This survey course traces the development of the American stage musical from the late 19th/early 20th century to the present day. Students will examine how the musical evolved as an art form and business, study the key individuals and landmark shows that helped define the musical as we know it today, and look at how cultural, political, and economic trends influenced what appeared on the Broadway stage.
