This interdisciplinary seminar examines the African American intellectual tradition from the early American republic to the present. Through the works of Walker, Douglass, Jacobs, DuBois, Ellison, King, Morrison and others, students will explore the unique development of an African American tradition both within and against a larger American intellectual tradition.
