This course surveys the deep historicity, the cultural diversity, and the political-economic complexity of contemporary African societies from the early post- independence period to the present day. This course will examine the Atlantic slave trade, colonialism and African nationalism as foregrounded historical events that have shaped modern Africa while also insightfully examining them from Africana perspectives and standpoints.
