Abolitionism and Community Justice

This seminar examines the growing movement to abolish the carceral state in its myriad manifestations. The class will begin with an exploration of the deep historical roots of the prison and policing abolitionist movement-- examining its theoretical foundations, critical junctures, and its numerous resistance fronts-- from the Attica Prison uprising to ?Abolish ICE? to ?Defund the Police.?
