The 3D Printing Technology Certificate of Completion offers a comprehensive introduction to the principles and applications of 3D printing. This program certificate is designed to meet specific industry skill sets and can be taken to begin or enhance your career. Additive Manufacturing

This certificate program prepares individuals to design for and apply 3D printing technology, also known as additive manufacturing, toward a host of applications. In addition to the curriculum requirements, this program includes hands-on requirements utilizing 3D printers located at the BSC campus plus 10 additional locations across the state of North Dakota. The program includes a 3D printing course where the students will design and develop a product.

The Advanced Digital Technology degree offers students an opportunity to combine three short-term certificates (16+ credits each) that are job skill related into one AAS degree. Athletic Coaching

The Certificate of Completion in Athletic Coaching at Bismarck State College introduces the basic aspects of coaching and prepares students for coaching athletics within a school system. Computer Networking

Computer Networking courses will provide the learner with the fundamentals of computer networking, including the practical and conceptual skills needed to understand basic networking, build simple local area networks, perform basic device configurations, implement IP address schemes, and configure and troubleshoot routers and switches.

Computer Science

Computer Science is a science of problem solving. The BSC Computer Science program helps students master the basic skills needed to analyze a problem and design, implement, and verify a correct solution to meet the ever-changing demands of industry. Students receive extensive practice in computer program design using a variety of high-level programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++, as well as technology troubleshooting experience.

CPA Accounting

This certificate would consist of advanced accounting courses designed to help prepare students to take the CPA exam. The purpose of this certificate is to assist students currently working in CPA firms or businesses that do not have their CPA license but need it to advance in their careers.

Criminal Justice (A.A.)

This Criminal Justice program prepares students for transfer to a four-year college or university. The goal is to acquire basic understanding of the criminal justice field. Criminal justice courses provide a working knowledge of the various bureaucratic structures and systems with sociology and psychology courses aiding in the understanding of human behavior. Major concentration options include law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.

The Custom Applicator program prepares students in custom application of crop protection products. Greater technical expertise is required to ensure proper application of fertilizers and pesticides due to developments in precision equipment, advanced crop technologies, and increased environmental awareness.

This degree program combines cybersecurity with system and network administration. Classes focus on best practices in security, networking, operating systems, and their administration. This degree program provides a solid cybersecurity backing to information technology (IT) tasks. The associate in science curriculum for Data Science transfer is designed for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges or universities to complete baccalaureate degree programs in data science with a mathematics emphasis. The program provides a functional curriculum of mathematics, statistics, computer science, communication, and science required by most data science programs with a math emphasis.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound)

To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the Abdominal - Extended and Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonography concentrations. The mission of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program is to provide a high-quality, learning-centered education in diagnostic medical sonography theory and practice that maximizes student learning and makes students partners in their education.

Dialysis Technician

The Dialysis Technician program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties required of dialysis technicians. Students will learn procedures to operate kidney dialysis machines, preparation of the dialyzer, reprocessing and delivery systems, equipment maintenance, and patient monitoring.

Diesel Technology

The Diesel Technology certificate will teach students the basic knowledge and skills needed to service and repair diesel- and gas-powered equipment. Hands-on learning is infused throughout the curriculum, and students benefit from cooperative education internships.

Digital Broadcasting

Changes in the media world have shown that journalism students need training beyond the concentration of writing and reporting. The Bismarck State College Mass Communication program offers video and audio broadcast experience. This certificate provides students with digital forensics skills critical to operating a Security Operations Center (SOC). This is a program for those who would like to work with children in an early childhood or elementary academic setting as the key assistant to the classroom teacher. It provides preparation for becoming certified as a Title I Paraprofessional, the certification that is required in the highest needs schools (low socioeconomic status, low achieving).

This is a program for those who would like to work with youth in a middle or high school academic setting as the key assistant to the classroom teacher. The Electronics/Telecommunications Technology program at BSC is a degree program offered on campus, though the first year of the program may be completed online. It provides students with a good basic electronics background, as well as specialized training in analog and digital telecommunications, copper and fiber optic media, radio communications, and digital electronics.

Eligibility Worker

Human services comprise all professional fields that share the common goal of helping people. The BSC Human Services program provides training in basic helping skills and the overview of service delivery and program administration needed for entry-level employment in public, private, and volunteer human service agencies. This program is designed to be flexible to meet current and future market demands so that the students may choose courses most appropriate to their interests and career goals.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and the Paramedic Technology Program at BSC are limited enrollment programs that prepare students to become entry-level Emergency Medical Services providers. BSC affiliates with healthcare facilities throughout North Dakota to provide concurrent training with classroom, laboratory, and clinical/field education.

Energy Management

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Energy Management is designed for people employed in the energy industry who are interested in advancing their career as a supervisor or manager. Curriculum includes general education and energy management courses. Classes begin every eight weeks throughout the fall and spring semesters.

The Energy Services & Renewable Technician program prepares graduates for technician careers in the rapidly expanding energy industry. Foundations of Teaching

This Bachelor's of Applied Science degree program is intended to provide a solid foundation for teacher preparedness, confidence, and tenacity. It will lead to the federal Title I Paraprofessional Certificate of Completion, the North Dakota Substitute Teaching License, with an option to co-enroll in a 4-year licensing bachelor's degree at a partner institution for completion of two bachelor's degrees simultaneously; this ultimately will lead to full teaching licensure as well.

The mission of the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program is to provide a high quality, learning-centered education in medical laboratory theory and practice that maximizes student learning and makes students partners in their education. Medical laboratory technicians, under supervision of a physician or medical laboratory scientist, perform general laboratory tests that aid medical providers in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Pre-Chiropractic

Pre-Medical

BSC students planning to attend medical school can choose any major, but prescribed prerequisites have to be completed before applying to a medical program. The major that most closely aligns with these prerequisites is biology with health care emphasis. The Pre-Occupational Therapy pathway at BSC provides the first two years of core classes for students planning a career as an occupational therapist. An occupational therapist is a member of the healthcare team responsible for helping individuals across the lifespan perform tasks of daily living, work and leisure, all of which are referred to as meaningful occupations. A master’s degree or higher is standard for working as an occupational therapist.

Pre-Optometry

The Pre-Optometry pathway at BSC provides core classes toward a baccalaureate degree for students planning a career in optometry. Please note: Pre-Optometry is not a major. Students are encouraged to select a major based on their area of interest. Because optometry schools differ in their requirements, BSC offers an extended associate degree program (more than 60 credits) and a variety of courses required by optometry schools.

Pre-Pharmacy

The Pre-Pharmacy pathway provides the first two years of core classes for students planning a career in pharmacy. BSC’s curriculum has been developed based on the suggested pre-professional curriculum of North Dakota State University’s School of Pharmacy. Coursework focuses on general biology and chemistry, organic chemistry, college physics, anatomy and physiology, and applied calculus.

Pre-Physical Therapy

The Pre-Physical Therapy pathway at BSC provides the first two years of core classes for students planning a career as a physical therapist. Physical therapists use techniques to help injured or sick people improve or restore their movement and manage their pain, often reducing the need for surgery or long-term prescription medication. As licensed health care professionals, they are an important part of rehabilitation for patients with chronic conditions or injuries.

Pre-Radiologic Technology

The Pre-Radiologic Technology pathway at BSC provides the first two years of core classes toward a baccalaureate degree for students planning a career in radiologic technology. Students study human biology, anatomy and physiology, introductory chemistry and microbiology, college physics, and algebra and trigonometry. Other courses include introductory computer and psychology classes and general education classes required for graduation.

The Pre-Respiratory Therapy pathway at BSC provides the first two years of core classes toward a baccalaureate degree for students planning a career as a respiratory therapist. Study includes general biology, microbiology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, college physics, algebra, ethics, and general education classes required for graduation.

Pre-Veterinary

The Pre-Veterinary Medicine pathway provides the first two years of core classes for students planning a career in veterinary medicine and is not a degree in itself. Coursework focuses on biology, chemistry, physics, animal science, mathematics, and English. BSC recommends identifying an appropriate major early on, as well as the veterinary college(s) where a student plans to apply.

Print and Digital Publications

Changes in the media world have shown that journalism students need training beyond the concentration of writing and reporting. The Bismarck State College Mass Communication program offers publishing and digital elements. The degree plan provides background in the journalism/mass communication profession and conveys the importance and responsibility of presenting accurate information in the media.

The Process Technology program at BSC focuses on training students and incumbent workers in the operation of refineries, biofuel plants, coal gasification and petrochemical plants, and natural gas processing facilities. Ranch Operations

The Ranch Operations certificate program is a concentrated curriculum designed to train students for an entry level position in the Production Livestock Industry. The program emphasizes hands-on learning through labs and practicum experience. Students will have the knowledge and skills to assess health and treatment regimens, interpret nutritional needs and feeding systems, execute pasture and grazing management, and discuss issues facing the livestock industry.

Religion

Religion is an inter-disciplinary field with its foundation in the humanities. The study of religion helps develop such essential skills as critical thinking, analytical writing, public speaking, and cross-cultural communication. BSC offers the first two years of coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in a religious studies specialty. Instruction is designed to provide a base of general education, social science and communication classes, along with introductory courses in religion.

Secure Programming

Secure Programming courses give students a background in the Python and Java programming languages, including fundamentals, logic development, top-down program design, and application creation. A structured high-level language approach to programming will also be explored, emphasizing problem-solving and design. Database development, creation, and vulnerabilities will be investigated, and the use of Structured Query Language will be learned.

Secure Web Programming

The Secure Web Programming certificate is the second certificate in the Web Programming stackable pathway. This certificate will teach students to write code for modern web applications, emphasizing secure programming techniques and methodologies.

Security and Hacking

The Security and Hacking courses give students practical Linux and security experience. Courses will expand students' knowledge in information security, providing them with the principles, technologies, and practices to secure computers and networks.

Security Operations

This certificate program provides students with the skills needed to detect and respond to network incidents. Tools and techniques will be examined, along with methods used to identify threat actors within the network. Students will enhance their knowledge of security analysis which will support their roles in security operations.

Social Work

Social work is viewed as an activity that seeks to help individuals, families, organizations, groups or communities engage resources that will alleviate human problems. Social work also is concerned with helping clients to develop capacities and strengths that will enhance their social functioning. The two-year pathway at BSC prepares students with core courses toward a bachelor’s degree in social work.

Sociology

Students in this pathway may complete the first two years of study toward a bachelor’s degree in sociology, anthropology, or social and criminal justice by following the suggested curriculum. Sociology is the discipline that explores how people create and maintain society, develop culture and organize the patterns of their lives in families, groups, and institutions. Through sociology, students develop skills in analysis, communication, and reasoning.

Software Analysis

This certificate program provides students with the skills needed to analyze malware infections and obtain detailed information about how they work, where they came from, and how they were written. Students will be able to solve problems by writing scripts or developing code as well as perform analysis of software to best understand its functionality.

Spanish I

Bismarck State College is taking a leadership role in providing students and community with the necessary skills to use Spanish in the workforce. These skills can be applied to any career in fields such as business, criminal justice, health care, social work, psychology, economics, political science, graphic design, and more. Sports and Exercise Science

This BAS degree provides a comprehensive grounding in human movement, integrating knowledge from biological, physical, and health sciences to explore how the body functions at physiological, biochemical, and biomechanical levels. The program is designed for students aiming to enter or advance in areas such as personal training, strength and conditioning, corporate wellness, military/law enforcement/first responder readiness, or coaching.

STEM College Studies

This program certificate is a step towards BSC’s suggested transfer coursework and is designed to help students investigate several academic areas known collectively as the arts and sciences. This certificate program includes required courses in a laboratory science and math. Students may choose 21 credits in elective courses to explore more options on their path to an associate in arts degree or associate in science degree.

Strategic Communication

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program in Strategic Communication focuses on preparing students for careers in communication, media, and digital technologies. The program is designed to provide both practical skills and theoretical knowledge in various communication fields, such as public relations, social media, journalism, marketing, and digital media.

Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology Program is a job readiness program for students interested in the exciting environment of the operating room. Surgical technologists work as integral members of the operating team, along with the surgeon, nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist, surgical first assistant, and circulating nurse. They possess an expertise in the theory and application of aseptic technique.

Technical Studies

The Technical Studies program addresses a recognized need for business and industry to attract highly trained workers with a variety of skills and to retain current workers. This custom-designed program is intended for employed individuals to combine elements of two disciplines in a meaningful and logical sequence that meets their career goals. Individuals may pursue this program of study to advance a career or to increase job responsibility.

The Bismarck State College Theatre pathway exists to provide a setting in which those who have chosen to investigate the theatre arts may find freedom to experiment and the encouragement to learn. A major is not required for participation. This program is designed to provide students with the skills to manage and plan flight operations and demonstrate the ability to collect and process imagery data for analysis. Students will be prepared for the FAA 107c Licensure exam.

The Water and Wastewater Technology program at BSC is offered online and designed for entry-level employment in water and wastewater treatment facilities. Students acquire understanding of operator responsibilities regarding the safety of communities, personnel, and environment.
