Addiction Studies

Develop a thorough understanding of substance use disorder, treatment programs and prevention as you prepare for a career supporting individuals in addiction recovery or working in the broader field of human services.

Adventure Education

Learn to lead adventure programs while getting out into the natural world, participating in experiential, hands-on training and developing your leadership and team-building skills. Explore the philosophical and technical aspects of adventure education in the following areas: backcountry travel, mountain biking, rock climbing, paddle sports, ice climbing, mountaineering and challenge course work. GCC's certification competencies meet the adventure industry's nationally recognized standards.

Allied Health

This program provides a strong foundation for those who plan to transfer to a four-year college to pursue a bachelor's degree program in a wide range of health care fields. You'll take courses in anatomy and physiology, biology and statistics, in addition to the humanities and social sciences. You'll also choose from courses in areas of interest to you such as biology, chemistry, physics, math, emergency medicine or medical assistant.

Art/Visual Arts

Take a deep dive into your creativity and develop your artistic voice. You'll develop critical, philosophical, visual and technical artistic skills, as well as the ability to discuss your work and the work of others within the context of art discourse and visual literacy. Choose the MassTransfer version of the program if you want to complete the requirements of the MassTransfer General Education Foundation.

Art/Visual Arts MassTransfer Option

Develop critical, philosophical, visual, and technical skills in the visual arts. Choose to concentrate in photography, video, computer arts, painting, drawing, and interdisciplinary arts. The program includes studio foundation experiences in diverse media and required courses in liberal arts and art history. This version of the Visual Arts program is designed to meet the specific requirements of the MassTransfer General Education Foundation.

Biology

Explore topics like evolution, genetics, DNA, cell biology, photosynthesis, ecology, and plant and animal structures and functions. Round out your studies with chemistry, physics and math. Your courses will not only build your scientific knowledge, but will help you sharpen your quantitative reasoning, your critical thinking and communication skills, and your ability to undertake laboratory research.

Business Administration General

Build a focus that matches your career goals, with courses in accounting, management, digital marketing, computer information systems, e-commerce, website design, data analytics, and economics. Develop IT skills and understanding of organizational structures and business systems, and increase ability to work with a team. Courses from the Management Certificate and the Web Development and Design Certificate can be applied to the Business Administration General degree.

Business Administration Transfer

Take the necessary liberal arts and fundamental business classes that are typically offered in the first two years of a bachelor's degree program. Courses from the Management Certificate program can be applied to the Business Administration Transfer degree program.

Chemistry

Investigate the building blocks of the world around you. In chemistry, we study the properties, behavior, and changes of matter. Chemistry majors build strong skills in scientific investigation, lab work, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and communication. You'll explore atomic and molecular structure, periodic properties, chemical bonding and reactivity, thermodynamics, kinetics, physics, mathematics, and much more.

Computer Science

Learn the fundamentals of designing and implementing computer software and systems. You'll build an understanding of information literacy, strong tech communication skills and the ability to analyze computing problems and design solutions. You'll take courses in math and programming, with options in computer information systems, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology and geology.

Early Childhood Education

Start your education with the GCC Early Childhood Education Certificate program. You'll take courses in the foundational principles of early care and education and will engage in a practicum with on-site observation and coaching.

Early Childhood Education

This program focuses on the education of infants, toddlers and preschoolers, integrating innovative and progressive approaches that pair coursework with direct experience in a variety of educational settings. Courses explore creativity, thinking and learning, inclusion and accommodations, child growth and development, curriculum development, and children's literature.

Engineering Science

Take the math, science and engineering fundamentals courses required in the first two years of a bachelor's degree engineering program, preparing you for a seamless transfer to a four-year institution. Through electives, you will also explore your particular interests in a sub-discipline of the field, such as civil, environmental, electrical, computer, mechanical, industrial or chemical engineering.

Environmental Conservation

Pursue your love of science and the natural world. Explore key environmental topics, including ecological principles, human population dynamics, natural resources, geosciences, climate change, biodiversity, conservation, and the foundational concepts of cellular and molecular biology.

Fire Science Technology

Start your career in fire safety or enhance your skills and knowledge. Learn the technical and strategic aspects of fire safety, including fire protection, fire prevention, hazardous materials and department and fire scene organizational management, or add academic enhancement to your state or national firefighter academy training.

Human Services

In this interdisciplinary program, you'll study the human condition and the role of the helper in addressing human needs. You will build your knowledge of the human condition and many kinds of counseling and social work. Human services courses provide an introduction to the field as a whole, as well as case management and counseling. Finally, through a practicum, you'll get real-world experience working at a human services agency.

Justice Studies

Develop a thorough and nuanced understanding of the American justice system. Required courses in justice studies, history, civil rights, political science, psychology and sociology, along with electives in judicial reform, addiction studies and therapeutic treatment models provide a broad interdisciplinary review of the American system of social control.

Liberal Arts

Discover and cultivate your academic passions while developing a broad foundation in the behavioral and natural sciences as well as the humanities. You'll take courses in the natural sciences, composition, mathematics, the behavioral sciences and the humanities. Additional elective choices allow you to further explore disciplines or pursue your chosen field in greater depth.

Management

Enhance your career path with GCC's management certificate. You'll learn practical skill sets and foundational perspectives for entry-level careers in management. Courses taken can be used to complete the requirements for the Business Administration Transfer and Business Administration General associate degrees.

Medical Assistant

Complete this certificate program in just eight months with mostly online classes complemented by in-person, on-campus lab sessions. Develop skills in patient care, phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG) and practice clinical and administrative procedures in a medical setting.

Music Recording and Production

Turn your love of music and your technical abilities into a career in the audio recording profession as a producer, composer or sound designer. You'll learn various studio recording techniques working with music industry standard production, mixing and editing software, and using hardware like mixing boards, microphones and MIDI instruments. The curriculum includes an introductory business course, music courses and technical skills courses.

Nursing

GCC's registered nursing associate degree program is among the most highly regarded in the state. The curriculum, which will prepare you to provide care for adults and children in varied settings, is a combination of liberal arts and clinical nursing courses that can be completed in four semesters. You'll take fundamental anatomy, physiology and nursing courses, as well as courses focused on pediatric, maternity, medical-surgical and mental health nursing.

Outdoor Leadership

This certificate program equips you with the knowledge and skills to work as a trained outdoor leader in the following areas: backcountry travel, mountain biking, rock climbing, paddle sports, ice climbing, winter mountaineering and challenge course work. You'll learn by doing. Activities are primarily hands-on and field-oriented. You'll also develop your ability to be a leader, to work collaboratively and to respond to emergencies in the field.

Paramedic

As a certified basic or advanced EMT, you can complete GCC's paramedic certificate to take the next step in your career. Our rigorous program covers all aspects of advanced life support care, such as advanced patient assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment plans and implementation. The paramedic certificate program starts each fall.

Practical Nursing

This certificate program prepares you to start your career in direct patient care as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). In as little as 10 months, you'll be ready to provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adults and children.

Pre-Nursing

If you are considering pursuing the associate degree in nursing or the practical nursing certificate program at GCC or at another institution, the pre-nursing certificate program is a great option. You'll take courses in biology, psychology, sociology and English composition. These courses are also an excellent foundation for pursuing a degree in another science or health care discipline if your career plans change.

Surgical Technology

This program provides a solid foundation for a career in this essential healthcare field. You'll be equipped with the skills and knowledge to become a valuable member of surgical teams with knowledge and skills in maintaining sterile conditions in surgical environments and assisting surgeons during procedures.

Visual Arts

Build a strong foundation in visual art. You'll explore the visual, critical and practical aspects of working within a studio environment through courses in visual concepts and drawing, with options in video or computer art. You'll also take art history and composition courses. The work you produce may become part of your transfer portfolio if you pursue further education.

Web Development and Design

GCC's web development and design certificate program provides the technical and design skills needed to develop, implement, and maintain a functional website for a variety of business or non-profit applications. Graduates of this program can build on their skills with additional study to acquire an associate degree in Business Administration General.

World Language in French

Develop the knowledge and skills in language and culture to attain functional proficiency in spoken and written French. You'll take English composition courses and two courses each in beginning and intermediate French. From the beginning, instructors will conduct at least 90% of class time in French, creating a nearly immersive experience.

World Language in Spanish

Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to attain functional proficiency in spoken and written Spanish. You'll take English composition courses, elementary and intermediate Spanish, which are taught primarily in Spanish, and you'll have the option to take Spanish for Health Professionals, Law Enforcement or Emergency Responders.
