Classics

The mission of the Classics program at Hellenic College is to train students in the languages, literatures, and civilizations of Ancient Greece and Rome while preparing them for graduate degrees and careers in the humanities, teaching, theology, and law. The curriculum combines a rigorous ancient Greek language program with courses on the literature and culture of ancient Greece, Latin language, and Roman civilization.

Liberal Studies

The Liberal Studies major provides students with the opportunity to gain knowledge in the arts, humanities, philosophy, theology, and the social sciences as they respond to their unique vocations and pursue their personal development in Christ. It is principally designed to provide an avenue for transfer students who wish to build upon their study elsewhere within the spiritual and community atmosphere of Hellenic College.

Literature and History

The mission of Literature and History is to equip students with a broad understanding of the ways in which literature and the historical aspects of different fields in the humanities intersect. It is a writing-intensive program of study designed to introduce students to the debates about literature and culture, enhancing skills of critical thinking, articulation, and research as preparation for further study. Concentrations are offered in Literature and in History.

Nonprofit Leadership & Management

This synchronous remote Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management equips students with the skills needed to pursue a variety of leadership positions within the nonprofit sector, such as roles in fundraising, advocacy, and volunteer management. Requiring 18 credits, it provides a comprehensive understanding of the nonprofit field, including legal and financial frameworks, strategic planning, fundraising, and program evaluation.

Nonprofit Leadership & Management

The Nonprofit Leadership & Management major prepares students to lead nonprofit and faith-based organizations with integrity, strategic vision, and an Orthodox Christian ethos. Rooted in an understanding of philanthropy, the curriculum integrates skills in leadership, financial management, human resources, and organizational behavior, with courses in marketing, communications, fundraising, grant writing, and strategic planning.

Psychology and Human Development

The Psychology and Human Development program guides a holistic systems approach for understanding human growth and development, addressing biological, psychological, sociocultural, and religious spheres. Culminating in a practicum experience within a professional setting, the program prepares students for graduate work and professional careers in human services.

Sacred Arts

The Certificate in Sacred Arts trains undergraduate students to discern and generate beauty in the field of the Sacred Arts of the Orthodox Christian Church. The 12-credit certificate develops a foundational ability in the visual arts and connects the Orthodox theology of beauty and art with the historical practice of Orthodox Christian sacred arts.

Teaching Modern Greek

Offered through the Greek Studies program, this certificate prepares prospective instructors of Greek day or afternoon schools in the Greek Archdiocesan School System to teach Modern Greek.

Theology

The mission of the Theology program is to provide both an academic and a practical competency in Orthodox Christianity, within the context of a broad awareness of other Christian denominations and of world religions. This course of study prepares students for either lay or ordained ministry, scholarly work in the academy, or careers which require a strong foundation in theology, and is designed in particular for students who seek an active role in parish ministry.
