Accounting

The Accounting program at Mount Aloysius College is designed to provide students with a firm foundation of theory coupled with hands-on experience. The program is built upon the philosophy that the liberal arts provide the appropriate foundation for exploration of business studies and that classroom theory must be integrated with professional activity. Students may also pursue a concentration in Forensic Accounting in Criminal Investigations.

American Sign Language/English Interpreting

Interpreters provide an essential and critical communication service between individuals who do not use the same language. At the Mount, students learn in a bilingual/bicultural environment that promotes cultural equality, linguistic equivalence, and ethical principles and values. Graduates must have fluency in both English and ASL and understand the cultures of their clients.

Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals

This certificate prepares students to understand and articulate foundational AI concepts, including machine learning, deep learning, and key applications across various industries. Students apply data-driven approaches to develop or evaluate basic AI solutions, use and integrate AI tools in practical scenarios, and address the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI.

Biology (Bachelor of Arts)

The Biology major at Mount Aloysius College prepares students to enter careers in biology or to pursue graduate or professional education with a foundation in the liberal arts. Program goals include mastery of the scientific method, reasoning and analysis, core biological knowledge, research skills, and communication.

Biology (Bachelor of Science)

The Bachelor of Science in Biology is appropriate for students seeking admission to Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Optometry, Pharmacy, or Biology graduate programs. The curriculum builds core biological knowledge alongside chemistry, mathematics, and research experience within a liberal arts foundation.

Business Administration

The MBA program offers area professionals an opportunity to deepen their mastery of business, develop heightened competence in their chosen career, and pursue graduate work while maintaining work and personal commitments. In addition to a 24-credit core, students may select one of four concentrations (Accounting, Health and Human Services Administration, Project Management, or Non-Profit Management) or a non-concentration option of free electives.

Business Administration

Mount Aloysius College offers a flexible and contemporary program in Business Administration leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. The program is designed to provide students with a firm foundation of theory coupled with hands-on experience, integrating technology and varied business concepts throughout the curriculum. In consultation with an academic advisor, students can use the Business Elective block of credits to accommodate various business-related interests.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The purpose of the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is to facilitate intentional and quality academic learning, conceptualizations and skills, personal and professional development and dispositions, as well as lifelong learning for graduate students. The program ultimately promotes counselor competence and client wellness for diverse individuals in various clinical settings, organizations, and cultural contexts, and is aligned with current CACREP Standards.

Communication Studies

A Communication Studies major will not only have students look at the significance of media in past and contemporary society, it will provide students with an understanding of how media shape our society and also how society shapes media. The program covers mechanics, theory, and application, all grounded in professional ethics. Students graduating with this major will be able to create effective messages for mass audiences.

Conservation Law Enforcement

Conservation Law Enforcement is a two-year degree designed to prepare students for careers in conservation law, including those who wish to apply to the Ross Leffler School of Conservation, Pennsylvania's conservation officer training academy. Students learn a mixture of basic biology and ecology combined with additional exposure to law enforcement practice and theory.

Criminal Justice Addictions Professional

The certificate program is appropriate for current students of all bachelor programs who wish to prepare for human services positions as substance abuse counselors, teachers, school counselors, juvenile counselors, social workers, educators, health-care professionals, and those who work in the corrections field.

Criminology

Criminology is a diverse discipline exploring the scientific study of crimes, criminals, victims, prevention, investigation, theories, the social reaction to crime and criminals, the effectiveness of policy, and the broader political context of social control. The core courses provide a solid foundation across the principal components of the Criminal Justice System, from which students progress into select specializations, certificates, and concentrations.

Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics

The Information Technology Department offers an Associate of Science Degree in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics that emphasizes the skills required to function in a Security Operations Center, as part of a Computer Security Incident Response Team, or in an IT Security department. Credits may be applied toward the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Concentration in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics.

Early Childhood Education

The Associate of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education has been drawn from the recommendations of the National Association for Education of Young Children. It is designed to provide the student with many opportunities to work with young children in supervised settings while developing a firm theoretical base to guide classroom decisions.

Echocardiography

The Cardiac Sonography program is a four-year program in which graduates receive hands-on training on campus and in the clinical environment to perform sonography evaluations of the heart and great vessels. Students study the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of scanned organ systems, recognize different sonographic patterns, and provide accurate technical clinical presentations to an interpreting physician.

Education - Dual Certification Pre K-4 General Education and Pre K-12 Special Education

Students who enroll in the dual certification preschool-4th grade general education and preschool-12th grade special education degree program will be prepared to pass the required state standardized exams appropriate for each certification. The program gives learners the foundational skills to teach students in the general education preschool through 4th grade setting as well as preschool-12th grade students eligible for special education support and services.

Education - Early Level Pre-K-4

Students who enroll in the Education program for Early Level Certification will be prepared to pass the required state standardized exams appropriate for the certificate. Drawing from constructivist philosophies, students attain target standards of excellence identified by the Association of Childhood Education International. This professional preparation accompanies a liberal arts concentration providing a broad foundation for teaching in grades Pre-K-4.

Education - Middle Level 4-8

Students who enroll in the Education program for Middle Level Certification will be prepared to pass the required state standardized exams appropriate for each certificate and discipline. The professional preparation accompanies a liberal arts concentration providing a broad foundation for optimal teaching in grades 4-8. Students select a specialization in English/Language Arts/Reading; History, Politics, and Geographic Analysis; or Science.

Education - Special Education Pre K-12

Students who enroll in the Special Education PK-12 program will be prepared to pass the required state standardized exams appropriate for the certification. The program gives learners the foundational skills to teach students in grades preschool through 12th grade who are determined eligible for special education support and services. Students are taught in a small cohort and observe in school districts early in their degree program.

English

The Bachelor of Arts degree in English is designed to give students an excellent background in the arts and sciences while helping them become sophisticated producers and consumers of texts, both written and spoken. The English major promotes the ability to bring critical thinking skills to bear in speaking, writing, listening, and reading. Students may major in English, in English with a Theatre concentration, or in English with a Secondary Education specialization.

Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy

This certificate consists of twelve credits designed to develop proficiency in the application of forensic genetic genealogy to criminal, civil, and family history investigations. Students learn to use the methods of traditional genealogy and genetic genealogy as instrumental components of forensic investigations, culminating with a forensic investigative genetic genealogy practicum.

Geographic Information Systems

This certificate consists of seventeen focused credits designed to provide students in all majors the opportunity to connect GIS proficiency with their chosen career path. Students focus on the intersection of geospatial data management, analysis, research, and visualization of mapping through diverse data types, and complete an internship and hands-on GIS practicum.

Health Care Administration

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration program meets the needs of students who want to assume a leadership position within a health care organization, and is designed for students who have completed an Associate degree in the health sciences. It provides curriculum in the organizational structure of health care delivery, general leadership, and health care management, regulation, and law.

Health Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program meets the needs of students who want to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) graduate degree after undergraduate graduation. Enrollment in this degree is dependent upon completing an Associate degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA). The program addresses healthcare delivery, evidence-based practice, health promotion, and human behavioral, biological, and physical development.

History, Politics, and Geographic Analysis

The distinctive program of History, Politics, and Geographic Analysis (HPGA) seeks to enhance the personal lives, professional competencies, and commitment to lifelong learning of students. The program brings students, through a study of the past, present, and future, to an understanding of world societies and the forces which mold their institutions.

Information Technology

The Information Technology Department offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology emphasizing hands-on experience in programming, client/server operating systems, databases, computer hardware, and networking. Students may add a concentration in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics or in Web Development.

Interdisciplinary Studies offers students the unique opportunity to concentrate in two specific areas of study while developing a broad liberal arts background through a program of carefully selected electives. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree choose two minors with non-overlapping courses from a designated list of arts and humanities fields, with at least 18 credits between the two programs at the 300-400 level.

Interdisciplinary Studies offers students the unique opportunity to concentrate in two specific areas of study while developing a broad liberal arts background through a program of carefully selected electives. Students choose two minors with non-overlapping courses as their programs of emphasis and fulfill the requirements for those minors, with at least 18 credits between the two programs at the 300-400 level.

Liberal Arts (Associate of Arts)

The Liberal Arts curriculum begins with a broad core of instruction in the humanities, behavioral/social sciences, and natural sciences. The courses provide students with a well-rounded academic experience and much flexibility in designing their personalized programs. Students must complete at least 15 credits in the leadership or humanities and/or social science areas for the Associate of Arts degree.

Liberal Arts (Associate of Science)

The Liberal Arts curriculum begins with a broad core of instruction in the humanities, behavioral/social sciences, and natural sciences. Students pursuing the Associate of Science complete at least 15 credits in health studies and science with a grade of C or better and meet all other associate degree requirements.

Marketing

Medical Imaging

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Imaging is designed to give students the skills needed to become leaders in the field of medical imaging. Through preparation for advanced work in specialty areas such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, or cardiac interventional radiography, graduates are able to meet the challenges posed by advancing technology in the current healthcare environment.

Medical Imaging/Radiography

The Radiologic Sciences program offers an Associate of Science Degree that is inclusive of all eligibility requirements for the entry-level American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national certification exam in Radiography. The student-focused curriculum includes professional courses in the radiologic sciences and a structured competency-based clinical education with an emphasis on liberal arts studies.

Medical Laboratory Science

Medical Laboratory Science includes careers in hospitals and diagnostic laboratories that involve collecting samples and examining body fluids and other substances to diagnose diseases and disorders. The Medical Laboratory Science program at Mount Aloysius College is a 3+1 program where preparatory coursework in biology, chemistry, and math is completed in the first three years, with the final year of coursework and clinical hours completed through a clinical rotation at an affiliate school.

Natural Resource Management

Natural Resources Management incorporates theoretical ecology and biology with coursework in applied management practice. Students gain exposure to law and legal studies as preparation for working within existing legal structures to manage and mitigate environmental impacts in both the private and public sectors. Graduates can go directly into industry or transition into a post-graduate M.Sc. or Ph.D. program.

Natural Sciences

The Associate of Science provides a broad foundation in natural sciences, including biology, chemistry, and physics. For highly motivated students, this program can provide a fast-track to a career in pharmacy through an articulation agreement with Duquesne University leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

Nursing

The ASN Degree curriculum at Mount Aloysius College provides an education to prepare graduates as professional nurses, qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for registered nurses following graduation. A blending of theory classes, campus laboratory and simulation experiences, seminars, and clinical agency experiences enables students to achieve established program and student learning outcomes.

Nursing - Accelerated Second-Degree Pre-licensure Option (1.5 Years)

Designed for those who already hold a bachelor's degree in any field, this program is an option to get a jump start on a second career in nursing. Students holding a bachelor's degree are waived from the College's Core requirements and must complete the core science pre-requisites with a 2.0 GPA or better to enter the accelerated program.

Nursing (RN-BSN)

Upon completion of the RN to BSN Program, graduates will be prepared to give professional nursing care in a variety of health care settings, apply for master degree level study in nursing, and serve as leaders in society. The RN-BSN program is offered fully online, and students may take general education courses in a face-to-face format.

Nursing - Traditional Pre-licensure Option (3.5 Years)

Upon completion of the Pre-licensure Program, graduates will be prepared to give professional nursing care in a variety of health care settings, apply for master degree level study in nursing, and serve as leaders in society. The curriculum emphasizes patient-family centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics.

Physical Therapist Assistant

Consistent with the philosophy of the College and the core values of physical therapy, the Physical Therapist Assistant curriculum combines science and technical courses with the core courses to provide an education leading to the development of a competent and compassionate graduate. The curriculum is designed to graduate students possessing an understanding of, appreciation for, and competence in the field of physical therapy and their role as physical therapist assistants.

Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program is designed to provide the student with a broad education in the liberal arts and sciences and the specific preparation necessary for entry into the fields of psychology, social services, and graduate study. Courses emphasize the practical application of psychology to alleviate suffering, including counseling, developmental, cognitive, personality, and social psychology. Students choose one specialization from Counseling, Research, or Student Designed.

Secondary Education 7-12

The professional education program for students earning a grades 7-12 secondary education post-baccalaureate teaching certificate provides evidence that certification candidates complete a program aligned to the Pennsylvania Department of Education 7-12 Program Framework Guidelines. This program is intended for students who have a previous bachelor's degree completed in English, Biology, History, or Political Science.

Special Education PK-4

Students who hold a Bachelor degree in any area and are accepted into the Post-Baccalaureate Special Education program will be prepared to pass the required state standardized exams appropriate for the certification. The program gives learners the foundational skills to teach students in grades preschool through 12th grade who are eligible for special education support and services.

Surgical Technology

The Associate of Science Degree in Surgical Technology combines the science of the operating theatre with a liberal arts foundation to create a skilled professional responsible to the patient's holistic needs both physically and psychologically. The curriculum consists of both theory and clinical experience with an emphasis on aseptic technique, instrumentation, equipment, and surgical procedures.

The Ultrasonography Department offers a four-year program culminating in a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ultrasonography. Students complete general education courses in their first year and enter the ultrasonography courses for their final three years, gaining an in-depth understanding of healthcare and business administrative issues confronting medical imaging departments.
