Accounting

The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) degree is a 30 semester hour graduate degree program offered by the Dicke College of Business Administration. The program offers a Forensic Accounting and Audit Services (FAAS) Track with a blended online curriculum focused on forensic accounting, internal/external auditing and business valuation.

Accounting

The accounting major offers a four-year (120 semester hour) degree program that prepares students for many entry-level accounting and auditing positions. Depending on selected elective courses, students may have the necessary educational requirements for the CPA, CMA, and CIA examinations.

Art & Design

The Art & Design major integrates both art and design courses with liberal arts studies. The BA program is designed for intense study with the option of a major or minor in another discipline.

Art Education

The art education major is an intensive full-time teacher preparation program that enables students to earn Multi-Age (PK-12) Visual Arts Licensure.

Biochemistry

Students completing this major automatically satisfy the requirements for American Chemical Society (ACS) certification. Optional teacher licensure in Chemistry is available to students completing this major.

Biology

Aside from the required core, each student's curriculum is open to meet the requirements of their goals, including graduate or professional school, and teacher licensure. Academic advisors guide students in meeting their goals.

Chemistry (BA)

The chemistry major is offered through the Donald J. Bettinger Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Optional teacher licensure is available to students completing this major.

Chemistry (BS)

Students completing the BS chemistry major automatically satisfy the requirements for American Chemical Society (ACS) certification. Optional teacher licensure is available to students completing this major.

Civil Engineering

The civil engineering program prepares students for entry-level professional employment or advanced studies at the graduate level by offering a curriculum based on a strong background in the fundamentals of engineering, science, and mathematics structured for breadth of coverage of civil engineering principles. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Communication & Media

Communication & Media provides knowledge and skills emphasizing the close relationships between effective communication, successful personal and professional relationships, and public engagement. The major prepares students for graduate study and for careers in fields such as human resources, law, business, education, entrepreneurship and politics.

Computer Engineering

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE) is offered by the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Computer Engineering.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is offered by the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science. The program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Computer Science.

Computer Science + X

The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science + X (CS+X) program is unique in the college as the only Bachelor of Arts program, and it requires combining the major of the CS+X program with another program on campus, whether as a secondary academic program, dual degree or minor. Students majoring in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science cannot also pursue a second degree in the Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science + X.

Construction Management

Coursework prepares students for careers in professional and technical fields throughout industry and education, with application-oriented classroom and laboratory experiences emphasizing researching, designing, experimenting, fabricating, and managing. The program is accredited by the Association for Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

Creative Writing

The Creative Writing major is offered through the Department of English, Philosophy & Religion. All majors include a capstone project for which students prepare a professional project or paper under the guidance of an instructor.

Criminal Justice

Criminal justice prepares students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, probation and parole, juvenile justice, crime analysis, and courts administrations. A highly interdisciplinary major, criminal justice focuses on the political, administrative, sociological, and psychological aspects of crime and the criminal justice system.

Education-Early Childhood (BA)

The Early Childhood Education (PK-5) major prepares candidates for Ohio Primary (PK-5) teacher licensure through the Center for Teacher Education.

The Early Childhood Education (PK-5) major prepares candidates for Ohio Primary (PK-5) teacher licensure through the Center for Teacher Education.

Education-Middle Childhood (BA)

The Middle Childhood Education (4-9) major prepares candidates for Ohio Middle Childhood (4-9) teacher licensure. All Middle Childhood Education majors must select two of four concentration areas: Language Arts/Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Electrical Engineering

Graduates of the Engineering Education program develop and cultivate identities as engineering educators by functioning at the intersection of engineering and education. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET under the commission's General Criteria.

English

The English major teaches students to examine the present and learn from the past by studying cultural, literary, philosophical, and religious traditions. All majors include a capstone project prepared under the guidance of an instructor.

English Education

Successful completion of this major meets the curriculum and experience requirements for the Adolescent Young Adult (7-12) Teaching Licensure in Integrated Language Arts.

Entertainment Design & Production

The entertainment design and production major graduates students with a comprehensive knowledge of the aspects of theatre technology and design. The program is intended for the individual who plans to pursue a professional career, graduate study or further training in theatre.

Environmental & Field Biology

The ENFB major provides students with intensive hands-on learning that results in an exceptional foundation in the fields of environmental science and ecology. Students will be well prepared to pursue graduate degrees or gain employment in the government or private sector.

Exercise Physiology

Students majoring in exercise physiology must complete one of two pathways: clinical and rehabilitation sciences or exercise professions. The curriculum prepares students for graduate programs in the health professions and for careers in exercise and health.

Finance

The Finance Major curriculum includes the general education requirements, general business requirements, the BIZ Core courses plus finance specific coursework.

Forensic Biology

The forensic biology major provides students with a solid foundation in the forensic sciences through a core of forensic biology courses and, through upper-level forensic courses, provides a focused and coherent study in the practice of the scientific techniques used to analyze physical evidence found at the scene of a crime.

History

A major in history prepares students for careers in teaching, law, journalism, information management, government service, business, and any profession that requires verbal skill and analytical reasoning.

Integrated Health Sciences

Students entering the Raabe College of Pharmacy in the direct entry PharmD program or as a transfer student in the 4-year PharmD Pathway option will be eligible to earn a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Health Sciences. This degree will be earned by completing 123 hours of specified coursework that is also required for the PharmD program, plus the University general education courses.

Law

The basic program of study in the Claude W. Pettit College of Law leads to the awarding of the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, offered as a full-time program requiring three years of study and a part-time online program requiring four years. The core curriculum provides a foundation in all traditional legal subjects from a national perspective, complemented by a wide range of electives, clinical and externship programs, and moot court and trial team competition.

Management

The Management Major curriculum includes the general education requirements, general business requirements, and the BIZ Core courses plus management specific coursework. By combining a unique set of management electives, students can focus their studies in areas such as human resources, business intelligence, operations management, or leadership.

Manufacturing Technology

The Manufacturing Technology major offers concentrations in applied robotics and manufacturing management, with application-oriented laboratory experiences in cutting edge technologies and applied sciences. The program is accredited by the Association for Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

Marketing

The Marketing Major curriculum includes the general education requirements, general business requirements, and the BIZ Core courses, plus marketing specific coursework. Students can focus their studies in areas such as marketing analytics, integrated marketing communications, or customer relationship management.

Mathematics (BA)

Students majoring in mathematics must complete one of three concentrations: applied mathematics, advanced mathematical studies, or teacher licensure.

Mechanical Engineering

Offered by the Dr. Carl D. Clay and H. Jane Clay Department of Mechanical Engineering, the program enables students to acquire the skills needed for lifelong success and prepares them for professional practice and further studies. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Medical Laboratory Science

The ONU post-baccalaureate certificate in MLS focuses on educating academically qualified individuals in the medical laboratory sciences using a community-partnered curriculum. Students must complete a minimum of 47 semester hours of clinical laboratory science core coursework including the supervised applied clinical experience, delivered through the West Central Ohio Medical Laboratory Science Program.

Medical Laboratory Science

The BSMLS degree coursework centers on student learning and professional development using a community-partnered curriculum. The last year of study requires that students apply for admission to and complete one year of clinical training at the approved West Central Ohio Medical Laboratory Science Program.

Molecular Biology

The molecular biology major provides the classroom and laboratory training necessary for students to pursue careers in the biotechnology industry, biomedical research and for preparation for graduate and medical school.

Music

The Bachelor of Arts in music is designed for the student who has a deep passion for music and wants to study music from a broader perspective, including knowledge and understanding of music, its history, its cultural impact and its performance practices. Students complete core requirements plus one of the program's concentrations.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre provides professional training in dance, music and theatre within a liberal arts environment. Students must audition for admittance into the major and are expected to successfully complete a sophomore hearing during their course of study.

Music Education

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education is intended for students who have the ability, desire and determination to become an outstanding music teacher. Completion of the program allows the graduate to obtain licensure to teach band, choir, and/or general music in grades Pre-K through 12 in the state of Ohio.

Neuroscience

The neuroscience major, offered through the Department of Psychology & Education, combines behavioral/cognitive and cellular/molecular neuroscience coursework with a two-semester neuroscience capstone.

Nursing

The nursing program provides educational opportunities to a diverse population of qualified students who seek to acquire the knowledge and skills required for the practice of nursing as a Registered Nurse. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the national licensing examination (NCLEX-RN).

Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences

This degree provides a foundation of scientific and liberal arts education integrated with knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences. This degree will prepare students for entry directly into the workplace or to continue to a post-graduate program.

Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business

The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business Major prepares students for careers in the field of healthcare. The curriculum includes general education requirements, general business requirements, the BIZ Core courses, pharmaceutical and healthcare business required courses, and courses for one of five concentration areas.

Pharmacy

The Doctor of Pharmacy program is an advanced professional program that provides a foundation of scientific and liberal arts education integrated with knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences (biomedical, pharmaceutical, social/behavioral/administrative, and clinical sciences) as well as a comprehensive understanding of the provision of population health and patient-centered care.

Philosophy, Politics & Economics

PPE is an interdisciplinary major that draws together the knowledge base and intellectual skills of three component disciplines: philosophy, political science, and economics. The breadth of multidisciplinary skills required of the PPE major prepares students for careers in private enterprise, government, private foundations, research institutes, and non-profit organizations.

Political Science

A major in political science prepares students for careers in law, government service, public affairs, business, journalism, and information management.

Psychology (BA)

Psychology majors must complete one of three concentrations: brain and behavior, clinical and counseling psychology, or general psychology. Each concentration has been designed to prepare students for graduate study or employment in general psychology or specific subfields within the discipline.

Public Relations

The Public Relations program prepares students for jobs with agencies, nonprofit organizations and corporations doing both internal and external communication tasks. Ohio Northern University's public relations program is designated as Certified for Education in Public Relations (CEPR) by the Public Relations Society of America.

Social Studies Education

The social studies major with other required coursework meets the curriculum and experience requirements for the Integrated Social Studies (grades 7-12) teaching license for the state of Ohio. Completion of the Social Studies Education major also completes the requirements for a second major in history.

Sport Management

The Sport Management Major curriculum includes the general education requirements, general business requirements, and the BIZ Core courses, plus sport management specific coursework.

Statistics (BA)

Students majoring in statistics must complete one of two concentrations: actuarial science or applied statistics.

Strength & Conditioning

The Strength & Conditioning program is recognized by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) as meeting Education Recognition Program standards. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for professional certifications in strength and conditioning, and includes practicum and internship experiences.

Technology Education

Students majoring in technology education pursue Career-Technical Technology Education Licensure (grades 4-12). The major and teacher licensure program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Theatre

Theatre is a foundation for many careers where critical thinking and creative expression are important. The BA in Theatre is tailored to students whose professional aspirations span multiple theatre disciplines and/or other academic pursuits, with a focus area chosen in the sophomore year leading to a senior capstone project.
