Early Childhood Education

Pacific Oaks' MA degree in Early Childhood Education prepares graduates to integrate the College's transformative approach to early childhood education into leadership roles in public schools, childcare programs, state agencies, and nonprofits serving children and families. This MA degree does not qualify a student for a CA K-12 teaching or service credential.

This Bachelor of Arts degree program integrates preparation for the Dual Credential (Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and the Preliminary Education Specialist Teaching Credential-Mild/Moderate). It prepares students to educate young children from TK through eighth grade and from kindergarten through age 22.

Education: Elementary Education

The Master of Arts in Education Elementary Education integrates preparation for the Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and combines advanced study in education theory and practice with the academic requirements for California State Teaching Credentials.

The MA in Education Special Education integrates preparation for the Preliminary Education Specialist Teaching Credential (Mild to Moderate support needs) and provides a fundamental knowledge base for educating and developing learning environments for children from kindergarten through age 22. The curriculum is based on a constructivist framework responsive to multiple sources of diversity.

Human Development

The MA program in Human Development is designed to provide advanced study in theory and application of growth and development of individuals and systems across the lifespan. Students learn to critically evaluate the biological, psychological, emotional, sociological, and cultural factors that contribute to an individual's growth and development.

The Bachelor of Arts degree program in Human Development focuses on the growth and development of youth, adolescents, adults, older adults, and their families within the social contexts in which development takes place. The multi-disciplinary curriculum encourages students to develop a holistic perspective rooted in empowerment, equity, and social justice.

Marriage and Family Therapy

The MFT program offers a deeply relational approach to teaching and learning with an emphasis on intrapersonal, family, and institutional issues. The program prepares graduates to sit for the California MFT exam to earn a Marriage and Family Therapist License awarded by the California Board of Behavioral Science.

Organizational Leadership and Management

The MA program in Organizational Leadership and Management is based upon the theory that excellence in leadership requires knowledge, skills, and extensive self-awareness to create a successful organization with sustainable value. The program integrates leadership knowledge with cultural, political, and national diversity.

Social Work

The Master of Social Work program prepares graduates to become licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) in California through a comprehensive curriculum centered on culturally responsive practice. The program includes extensive real-world training through required field education and internship hours.

Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work Program draws upon its social justice heritage to prepare entry-level social work generalists who can provide culturally appropriate practices across diverse populations. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

STEAM

The STEAM certificate option is available to non-matriculating and matriculating new or continuing students and is designed to be completed across four courses. Successfully completed courses (C or better) are transferable and may be applied toward the BA ECE programs at Pacific Oaks College.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Certificate requires completion of 24 early childhood education units. Students transferring in ECE units do not qualify for the certificate but may complete outstanding units at the College to receive verification of completion.
