Divinity

The Theology Program consists of three-and-a-half years of study comprising seven academic semesters, providing the basic professional program of priestly formation. The residence requirement is at least two academic years. The total number of credits is 130, of which 109 are academic credits (thirty required courses and six electives) and 21 are Pastoral Formation credits earned through catechetical, supervised institutional, and parish placements.

Ministry

Offered by the Theological Institute, the Master of Arts in Ministry is an accredited graduate degree established for lay, diaconal, or professed religious students working or intending to work for the Church.

Philosophy (B.A.)

Offered through the Pre-theology Program, the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy is granted to seminarians who have completed two years of college-level courses at another institution plus two years of the Saint John's Pre-theology Program. Requirements include a minimum of 120 semester hours, thirty-two credit hours of Philosophy courses, at least 18 credits in one other field of study, and a minimum of 60 credit hours earned at Saint John's Seminary.

Philosophy (B.Phil.)

Offered through the Pre-theology Program, the Bachelor of Philosophy is granted to students who have already completed a bachelor degree in another field of study at an accredited institution. The program includes a concentration in Philosophy (at least 32 credit hours), 15 credits of undergraduate Theology, and related liberal arts electives for a total of at least 60 credits.

Sacred Theology

The Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology is an ecclesial degree granted through Saint John's Seminary's affiliation with the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas (Angelicum) in Rome. It follows the same three-and-a-half-year, 130-credit Theology Program as the Master of Divinity. In addition to the M.Div. requirements, students must pass the Oral Comprehensive Examination, which is arranged by the Office of the Academic Dean and usually taken during Fourth Theology.

Theological Studies for the New Evangelization

Offered by the Theological Institute, the Master of Theological Studies for the New Evangelization is an accredited academic graduate degree exposing students to the broad parameters of Catholic theology with a focus on evangelization and outreach to baptized Catholics who have fallen away from the faith.

Theology

The Master of Arts (Theology) program is designed to provide qualified student seminarians and student priests an opportunity to pursue in depth a specific aspect of their theological studies. To obtain the degree, a student must complete a total of 42 credits, twelve of which are drawn from electives in the candidate's area of concentration and six earned for the writing, presentation, and successful defense of a thesis.
