Accounting

The B.S. in Accounting program of the Department of Accounting, Business and Economics is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The ACBSP accreditation standards are modeled on the Baldridge National Quality Program, which focuses on a student-centered learning approach in the classroom.

Art History

The B.A. in Art History is offered through the Division of Communication, Art, and Media. Students study the history of art alongside foundational studio and design coursework, and have access to campus visual art studios and New York City internship opportunities.

Biochemistry

The Division of Natural Sciences offers courses leading to a B.A. degree in Biochemistry. The major comprises 65 credits, including a chemistry core, biology coursework, and cognate requirements in mathematics and physics.

Biology (B.A.)

The Division of Natural Sciences offers courses leading to a B.A. degree in Biology. The 65-credit major includes a biology core of general biology, genetics, ecology, and biology colloquium, plus biology electives and cognate requirements in chemistry and mathematics.

Biology (B.S.)

The Division of Natural Sciences offers courses leading to a B.S. degree in Biology. The B.S. major comprises 77 credits, a more research- and science-intensive program than the B.A. in Biology.

Business Administration

The Master's in Business Administration includes leveling courses, management competencies, and capstone courses. Students may complete the general MBA with no specialization or choose a specialization in Healthcare Management, International Business, Nonprofit Management, or Risk Management.

Business Administration (B.B.A.)

Within the 120 credits required for the online B.B.A. degree, students must complete 10 general education courses and 10 business core courses. The business core provides a substantial overview of all business-related topics, including management, marketing, accounting, economics, law, finance, operations, human resources, international business, and business strategy.

Business Administration/Sports Management

An alliance between the University of Mount Saint Vincent and St. John's University's College of Professional Studies permits motivated business majors who achieve an impressive record of performance to earn an M.P.S. in Sport Management. Business majors apply at the end of their sophomore year and then take one graduate course in each semester of their junior and senior years, for a total of 12 graduate credits.

Business Risk Management

Businesspeople are increasingly involved in risk processes including identification of current and future risks, devising solutions to minimize risk, implementing risk mitigation strategies, and monitoring operations to ensure risks are addressed. The certificate aims to address needs of the business workplace with a focus on increased training in business process, data analytics and professional skepticism.

Chemistry

Communication

Communication students advance their understanding of theoretical, critical, and historical approaches, and demonstrate the ability to think analytically about issues in media studies and human communication. They improve their speaking and writing skills through their ability to research, organize, and deliver effective presentations, as well as writing articles and papers in a variety of styles.

Data Analytics

The Data Analytics major strives to educate students in the understanding, examination and utilization of marketplace data using analytical procedures, quantitative reasoning and rigorous deduction. Students learn a variety of technological tools: math software, including computer systems, visualization software, statistical packages, and computer programming languages in dealing with emerging digital data as well as other Big Data.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The DEI Certificate Program equips participants with a sound knowledge base in critical multicultural principles and strategies, cross-cultural communication, and organizational and self-assessment. Participants formulate a personal and professional philosophy and strategy for creating, supporting, and advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity in the communities they participate in and serve.

Early Childhood Education and Special Education (Dual Certificate Birth-Grade 2)

Early Childhood Education and Special Education (Dual Certificate Birth-Grade 2) is a master's degree program offered at University of Mount Saint Vincent.

Economics

The B.A. in Economics is offered by the Department of Accounting, Business and Economics. The major combines a common professional component in economics with upper-level economics coursework.

English

A 12-credit program in the School of Education consisting of Linguistic Analysis, Structure of American English, Teaching English as a Second Language I, and Teaching Across the Content Areas: Methods of TESOL, Grades Pre-K-12.

Family Nurse Practitioner

The advanced Family Nurse Practitioner certificate program provides the nurse, holding a master's degree in nursing, the opportunity to acquire an in-depth theoretical understanding of advanced nursing practice with individuals. Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner examinations.

French Studies

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers courses leading to the B.A. degree in French Studies. The 30-credit major is offered in two options, and students may combine sequential French language courses with approved Art, History, or Philosophy courses.

General Science

This major is designed for students who want a science background to complement another career goal. There are three areas of competency for the General Science major: Life Science, Mathematics, and Physical Science. Three of the courses (9 credits) will satisfy the University's undergraduate core requirements.

Healthcare Administration

The B.S. in Healthcare Administration combines the Undergraduate College core requirements with a 69-credit Healthcare Administration major.

History

History majors apply at the end of their sophomore year and take one graduate course each semester of their junior and senior years, for a total of 12 graduate credits.

History

The B.A. in History requires 120 course credits, including the undergraduate core requirements and a 30-credit History major. Students communicate effectively in written and oral form by constructing and presenting historical arguments supported by scholarly sources.

History/Library and Information Sciences

An alliance between the University of Mount Saint Vincent and St. John's University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences permits motivated History majors who achieve an impressive record of performance to earn an M.S. in Library and Information Sciences from St. John's University in an accelerated fashion. Students take 12 graduate credits during their junior and senior years, applied to both the B.A. and the M.S.

Interdisciplinary Studies

The Interdisciplinary Studies major permits a student to design an individual course of study by combining courses selected from the offerings of two disciplines. A total of 36 credits, 15 from each of two areas, a required 3-credit Internship, and a 3-credit capstone experience are required for this major. No more than six credits at introductory level are permitted in each area.

Italian and Italian Diaspora Studies

The Italian and Italian Diaspora Studies Major provides students with an interdisciplinary course of study that exposes them to the language, literature, history, and culture of Italy and its diaspora. The major consists of ten courses, thirty credits: a minimum of 18 credits must be in Italian at the 200-level or above and up to 12 credits of interdisciplinary courses may be taken.

Liberal Arts

Seton College is a two-year associate's degree program at Mount Saint Vincent. All students enrolled in the AA in Liberal Arts will complete the 48-credit core curriculum plus 12 elective credits. Students complete the core curriculum, two elective courses, and a capstone course.

Mathematics

The B.A. in Mathematics comprises a 42-credit mathematics major including calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, real analysis, abstract algebra, computing, and a two-semester capstone sequence.

Nursing

The MS in Nursing program prepares in-service nurses to advance their careers. The curriculum combines theory, experience, and research. Students can pursue a specialization as a Family Nurse Practitioner to prepare for new roles in the profession.

Nursing

The B.S. in Nursing requires 126 credits, including 40 credits of undergraduate core requirements, 61 credits of nursing requirements, 22 credits of cognates, and 6 general elective credits. Students complete clinical practicum placements at affiliated hospitals and health systems throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Occupational Therapy

The University has a cooperative 3-2 arrangement with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, which enables Mount students to earn a B.S. degree in biology or psychology and an M.S. degree in occupational therapy after five years of study. A cooperative 3-3 arrangement with Dominican College enables students to earn a B.A. in Psychology from the Mount and an M.S. in occupational therapy from Dominican College after six years.

Pharmacy

The University of Mount Saint Vincent and the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut offer a dual degree program through which students are able to earn both a Bachelor's degree and the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in six years of full-time study. During the first three years, students study full-time at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, completing a prescribed course of study that will lead to the Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry.

Philosophy

The B.A. in Philosophy comprises a 30-credit major beginning with Introduction to Ethics and including coursework in philosophical fundamentals, problems in philosophy, and the history of philosophy, culminating in a senior seminar.

Physical Therapy

The Mount has a cooperative 4-3 arrangement with New York Medical College, which enables University of Mount Saint Vincent students to earn their baccalaureate degree plus a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy after six years of study. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.5 or above with no grade lower than a B and submit a GRE score.

Physician Assistant

The University of Mount Saint Vincent Master of Science Physician Assistant Program trains you to practice as a physician assistant in a broad range of clinical settings. It is a 28-month program designed to prepare students for clinical practice at top healthcare facilities. The program consists of 16-month didactic phase in four semesters and 12-month clinical phase in three semesters.

Professional Studies

The B.P.S. degree combines a general education component of ten GNED courses with a 30-credit professional studies component. Students must declare one of three program options: Communication and Media Studies, Criminology and Social Justice, or Organizational Leadership.

Psychology (B.A.)

The B.A. degree provides students with the opportunity to prepare for a variety of careers as well as graduate study. Students complete courses in a variety of areas of Psychology.

Psychology (B.S.)

The B.S. degree is recommended for students who intend to prepare for medical school or research related graduate study. Students complete courses in a variety of areas of Psychology with an emphasis on research.

Psychology/Occupational Therapy

A joint degree in which students complete the requirements for the psychology major, as well as the prerequisites for the partner occupational therapy program, during their first three years at the Mount. Cooperative arrangements exist with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and with Dominican College, leading to a B.A. in Psychology from the Mount and an M.S. in Occupational Therapy from the partner institution.

Public Policy

The public policy major provides a comprehensive program of liberal arts study aimed to stimulate and encourage students to enter careers devoted to policy solutions to social problems such as inequality, discrimination, and corruption. Grounded in the principles of human dignity, solidarity, and the common good, this program critically examines public policy and service in a variety of different types of polities, both contemporary and historical.

Religious Studies

The B.A. in Religious Studies comprises a 30-credit major including RELS 208 and eight additional religious studies courses at the 300/400 levels chosen in consultation with the Department Chair and faculty advisor, culminating in a senior seminar capstone.

Risk Management

The certificate covers information technology related business risk management, including risk identification, evaluation and response, data analytics for business insight and reporting, forensic accounting, and financial statement analysis. Coursework addresses the five components of the COSO Framework for evaluating internal controls.

Social Work

A career in social work is well within your reach through the B.P.S./M.S.W. in Social Work dual bachelor and master's program offered by the University of Mount Saint Vincent and Yeshiva University's Wurzweiler School of Social Work. Upon completing the 150-credit program, the student graduates with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Criminology and Social Issues from the University of Mount Saint Vincent and a Master of Social Work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work.

Social Work (joint degree with Fordham University)

The University of Mount Saint Vincent has a program of study with Fordham University that provides the opportunity for motivated Sociology majors to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in 5 years. Students complete three years of undergraduate study at the University of Mount Saint Vincent followed by two years of graduate study at Fordham University.

Social Work (joint degree with Yeshiva University)

In collaboration with Yeshiva University's Wurzweiler School of Social Work, the University of Mount Saint Vincent offers students a five-year pathway to a joint B.A. Sociology/Master of Social Work. Students earn 90 credits directly from Mount Saint Vincent, then take 60 credits at Yeshiva University, the initial 30 of which fulfill the final 30 credits of the bachelor's degree.

Sociology

An alliance between the University of Mount Saint Vincent and St. John's University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences permits motivated Sociology majors who compile a record of high-level performance to earn a graduate degree in an accelerated fashion. Students take one graduate course during each semester of junior and senior year for a total of 12 graduate credits, then complete a Master's Degree in Criminology and Justice at St. John's University.

Sociology

The B.A. in Sociology requires 120 course credits, including 46 credits of undergraduate core requirements and a 30-credit sociology major with required courses, electives, and a senior seminar.

Spanish

The B.A. in Spanish comprises a 30-credit major including advanced grammar and composition, masterworks in Latin American and Peninsular literature, and seven additional Spanish courses, two of which must be at the 400 level.

Spanish for Health Professionals

This program will prepare undergraduates to work in the healthcare setting with their Spanish-speaking patients. Students will expand their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills explaining procedures, describing diagnoses, and completing intakes in Spanish. Additionally, students will develop cultural competencies by studying the Latino and Hispanic population.

Studio Art

The B.A. in Studio Art requires 120 course credits, including 33 credits of Studio Art major requirements in drawing, design, graphic arts, sculpture, and art history. Students work in campus visual art studios, a ceramics and sculpture studio, and digital media labs.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Students without a teaching license must complete two additional courses beyond the required TESOL coursework.

Theatre

A B.A. in Theatre degree will provide students with a focused interdisciplinary curriculum that expands their knowledge of theatre and theatre-making and will allow students to delve deeply into one of three areas of concentration: Acting and Performing Arts, Playwriting and Storytelling, and Theatre-Making and Media Arts.

Visual Arts and Experimental Media

The B.A. in Visual Arts and Experimental Media comprises a range of cutting-edge, experimental courses in visual arts, electronic art, media, photography, video art, and sound arts. The program integrates traditional media, processes and methodologies from the arts, communication, networked media, and computer media. It is offered jointly by the Communication Department and Fine Arts Department.
