A Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector is a person who has demonstrated proficiency in concrete inspection methods for transportation projects, including preplacement, placement, and post-placement operations. A Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector In-Training is a person who has demonstrated knowledge in concrete inspection methods for transportation projects, but does not have the experience required to qualify as an ACI Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector.

Scope and Knowledge: The JTA is a detailed list of specific points of knowledge and/or skills that may be included in the examinations for this ACI Certification program. ACI urges candidates to use the JTA to prepare for the certification exams. JTA for ACI Certification of Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector The program requires a knowledge of concrete construction, including plan reading, soil-cement, piling installations, formwork installation and removal, reinforcements, embedments, sampling and testing freshly mixed concrete, conveying, placing, consolidation, finishing, jointing, curing, and protection as well as the following test methods and standard practices: ACI CT-23 Concrete Terminology ACI 117-10(15) Specifications for Tolerances for Concrete Construction and Materials ACI PRC-213-14(23) Guide for Structural Lightweight-Aggregate Concrete ACI 230.1R-09 Report on Soil Cement ACI 301-20 Specifications for Concrete Construction ACI 304R-00(09) Guide for Measuring, Mixing, Transporting, and Placing Concrete ACI 304.2R-17 Guide to Placing Concrete by Pumping Methods ACI 305R-20 Guide to Hot Weather Concreting ACI 306R-16 Guide to Cold Weather Concreting ACI 308R-16 Guide to External Curing of Concrete ACI 309R-05 Guide for Consolidation of Concrete ACI 318-19(22) Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete; Ch. 1-2, 17, 19-20, & 25-26 ACI 325.9R-15 Guide for Construction of Concrete Pavements ACI 327R-14 Guide to Roller-Compacted Concrete Pavements ACI 336.3R-14 Report on Design and Construction of Drilled Piers ACI 345R-11 Guide for Concrete Highway Bridge Deck Construction ACI 347R-14(21) Guide to Formwork for Concrete ACI 543R-12 Guide to Design, Manufacture, and Installation of Concrete Piles IBC 2015 International Building Code; Ch. 17 & 19 Certification Requirements: For Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector: ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who: Obtain a passing grade on the written inspection examination; and Obtain a passing grade on the plans reading (blueprint reading) examination; and Fulfill the requirements in ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I as follows: Be currently certified as an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I OR Have been certified as an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I at one time AND Pass the current ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I written exam within one year of passing the Inspector exam.* Possess at least one of the following qualifications: A minimum of two years of college or technical school, earning at least 60 credit hours, PLUS two years of satisfactory work experience; or A high school diploma, or equivalent, PLUS a minimum of three years of satisfactory work experience; or Five years of satisfactory work experience. *Note: If the written exam and plans-reading exam are passed on separate dates, the one year period for passing the ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I written exam begins on the date of the first exam passed. The work experience must include: Decision-making authority and responsibility; Verification of compliance with plans, specifications, and codes; Evaluation of concrete construction in the field; Documentation and reporting of inspection results; and Proficiency in appropriate areas of concrete construction inspection. Verification of the amount and range of work experience by the applicant's employer(s) is required. The three-hour written inspection examination is open-book and consists of approximately 80 multiple-choice questions. The one-hour plans-reading examination consists of approximately 20 questions and is designed to test the examinee's ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
