Early Childhood Education is designed to introduce students to the concepts and skills needed to pursue a career educating children from birth through age five. It focuses on seven key topics vital to early childhood education: human development, health and safety, learning environment, classroom practices, observation and assessment, professionalism, and program management. Within each of these topics, the course presents the science of child development and provides opportunities for students to apply skills that will prepare them for working with young children. Access to an early childhood education facility with children is required for students to develop essential skills for teaching children. Career and Technical Student Organizations are integral, co-curricular components of each career and technical education course. These organizations enhance classroom instruction while helping students develop leadership abilities, expand workplace-readiness skills, and access opportunities for personal and professional growth. Students in the Education and Training cluster affiliate with FCCLA.
