Careers in statistics require a strong background in mathematics. Certain specific courses in the mathematics sequence are recommended. For persons interested in statistics, it is wise to consider a secondary subject in which statistical methods are applicable. Some four-year schools require as much as 15 credit hours in an area of this type for graduation. These might include, but are not limited to, biology, psychology, or economics.
