Emphasis is placed on mastering test procedures essential for controlling asphalt pavement quality. Topics include asphalt plant operations, producing quality asphalt mixtures, volumetric analysis, asphalt mixture sampling, random sampling techniques, Rice and bulk specific gravity, lab compaction (Marshall & Superpave), asphalt content determination (ignition & nuclear gauge), extraction gradation, fine aggregate angularity, and clay content (sand equivalent). Note: The Radiation Safety course is a prerequisite for this course.
