This badge recognizes participants who completed the Foundational level of Round One of the Presidential 1776 Award, a national civics competition announced by the U.S. Department of Education as part of the America 250 celebration that aims to enhance students' understanding of civics and knowledge of America's founding. Round One was administered as an online multiple-choice test, structured as three timed 30-minute sections of increasing difficulty (Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced), with the Foundational level designated as Level 1 and described in the scoring rubric as "Foundational Knowledge."

The competition covers the documents and topics central to America's history, including the Founders, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitutional Convention, and the great soldiers and battles of the American Revolutionary War. The test was administered during a seven-day testing window from February 22 at 12:00 AM through February 28 at 11:59 PM Eastern, 2026, was closed-book.
