A candidate for the Ph.D. must earn at least four semesters of residency credit, satisfy the computer programming requirement, complete either the Pure Math or the Applied Math option for comprehensive examinations, pass at least six advanced courses, pass the Teaching Assistant Teaching Seminar and perform two semesters of instructional service, pass a preliminary oral exam on the chosen specialty area, and write and defend a Ph.D. thesis.
