Musicology

The Department of Music offers the doctor of philosophy in musicology, encompassing music history, music theory, ethnomusicology, and studies of popular culture. The graduate program is an integrated M.A.-Ph.D. sequence. Doctoral students complete an additional 12 hours of seminars beyond the 30 hours required for the M.A., pass a written examination, take an oral examination on a proposed dissertation topic, and complete and defend a dissertation.
