The Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program prepares participants for Class A and Class B commercial driving careers through classroom instruction and hands-on vehicle operation. Students develop the knowledge and driving skills needed to safely operate commercial vehicles, meet federal regulations, and prepare for Alabama CDL licensure and endorsement testing.

Detailed information about this program

This workforce training program combines classroom theory with behind-the-wheel instruction to prepare participants for Class A and Class B Commercial Driver's Licenses and selected endorsements. Students receive training in vehicle inspection, basic control skills, backing, road driving, safety regulations, cargo handling, route planning, and defensive driving. Upon successful completion, participants test with a Wallace State certified ALEA examiner to obtain Alabama CDL licensure.

Exam Requirements

Participants must demonstrate competency in all required commercial driving skills and successfully pass the Alabama CDL knowledge and skills examinations. The skills examination includes a pre-trip vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving evaluation administered by a Wallace State certified ALEA examiner. Additional written and/or skills testing is required for applicable CDL endorsements.
