This course covers a range of special topics in European history at the advanced undergraduate level. Normally taught as a relatively small course (enrollment of c. 25), it will emphasize close reading of primary sources, class discussion, and research and writing, including an series of extensive formal writing projects (usually a research paper of c. 10-15 pages). Topics will vary by instructor but will include major themes in medieval, early-modern, and modern European civilization.

This course provides on-site directed investigations of geology in locations remote from campus.

Study of specific finance topics of current interest, providing additional depth of knowledge in areas such as financial statement analysis and international financial issues. Topics vary, but course is not repeatable.

Elementary combinatorial analysis, probability, vectors and matrices, game theory, linear programming, and model building in the social and physical sciences. Introduction to Francophone cinema through the discussion and analysis of French-language films placed within their cultural and historical context. Can be taken twice for credit with different content.

Reading, analysis and discussion of major works from French-speaking West Africa, the Maghreb, the Caribbean, and Quebec. Authors studied may include Senghor, Cesaire, Damas, Fanon, Ben Jelloun, Djebar, Kourouma, Sembene, Hebert, Chamoiseau.

Literary works, other than novels, written since 1900. The course may treat theatre, poetry, or a combination of the two. Authors studied may include Apollinaire, Ponge, Char, Cocteau, Genet, Beckett, and Ionesco. May be repeated once for credit provided the topic is different.

Introduction to contemporary French and Francophone culture through the study of films, popular music, media, newspapers art, and/or television shows. May be taken up to four times for credit with different content.
