This course includes an introduction to methods and theories of zooarchaeological research. Practical experience in processing, identification, and interpretation of animal bone remains from archaeological sites forms a large part of class time.

Biology and management of zoo animals, and the management of zoos. Nutrition, breeding, genetics, herd management, record keeping, and conservation biology. aspects, and ethics of confined wildlife management.

Identification, taxonomic classification, phylogeny, distribution, life history, and economic/medical importance of protozoans, invertebrates and vertebrates.

(BIOL 1313 and 1113, 1413) Zoology. Survey of animal life with respect to cell organization, genetics, evolution, diversity of invertebrates/vertebrates, anatomy/physiology, and interaction of animals with their environment; includes laboratory that reinforces and provides supplemental information related to lecture topics. The study of the means by which multi-celled organisms solve their peculiar problems of life, principles of classification and phylogenetics, evolution, reproduction, and behavior population. Three lecture hours and a two-hour laboratory per week.

This course is a comparative study of the morphology, anatomy, physiology, and taxonomy of the various animal phyla along with the molecular basis for evolutionary theory and classification. Three hours of lecture, two hours of laboratory per week.

This course presents a comparative approach to infectious disease in humans and animals, while specifically highlighting zoonoses (diseases shared between humans and animals). Students will learn infectious disease epidemiologic concepts, as well as delve into foodborne, vaccine-preventable, sexually transmitted, and vector-transmitted pathogens, as well as common systems-associated infections in both animals and humans.
