Students will develop their academic writing accuracy and fluency. They will learn and practice the content, organization, and language for writing academic paragraphs and essays in American universities.

Students entering the program or current students will gain skills to differentiate between rhetorical situations in the workplace (identifying types of writing, formats, audience, information), write informative and persuasive documents and use correct grammar.

In this course, students will learn strategies and techniques for writing organized narrative, descriptive, or argumentative paragraphs. Emphasis is on the formation of correct sentences and on paragraph development, using appropriate grammatical structures. This is the first course in a series designed to prepare ESOL students to handle the writing tasks they will encounter in college-credit level courses and the workplace. This course may be repeated for up to six hours of credit.

In this course, students will learn strategies and techniques for academic writing, moving from the paragraph to the essay. Focus is on the formation of more advanced sentence structures and on content development. This is the second course in a series designed to prepare ESOL students to handle the writing tasks they will encounter in college-credit level courses and the workplace. This course is not for college-level credit.

In this course, students will learn more advanced strategies and techniques for writing organized essays. Emphasis is on incorporating more complex sentence structures, paraphrasing, summarizing, and responding to cited academic writing. This is the third course in a series designed to prepare ESOL students to handle the writing tasks they will encounter in college-credit level courses and the workplace. This course is not for college-level credit.

In this course, students will learn even more advanced strategies and techniques for writing organized essays. Emphasis is on writing more complex sentence structures, paraphrasing, summarizing, and writing an MLA-style documented essay. This exit-level writing course is designed to prepare ESOL students to handle the writing tasks they will encounter in college-credit level courses and the workplace. This course is not for college-level credit.

This creative writing course has a substantial focus on culture, place, region, and the intersectionality of identity. Students will create a final portfolio of creative work that reflects the world they live in with sensitivity, research, and insight.
