Students learn the processes of developing proposals and grants from writing external requests for proposals.

This course is a seminar for undergraduate students in French that focuses on writings on immigration in the context of all movement of immigrants in the French-speaking world, not just the French metropole and its immigrant neighborhoods. Writings cover a range of experiences and social classes, from an elite class of immigrants to clandestine immigration. Interdisciplinary critical theory is an important tool in literary analysis for this course.

Course offers students continued practice in reading, research, and writing central to academic investigation and to interdisciplinary approaches. Develops skills in writing across disciplines and critical thinking. Emphasizes readings on diverse, contemporary, and multicultural issues in African American Studies. Writing, Ethics and Civic Responsibility are significant components of this course.

An introduction to writing and communication in the life sciences. Topics will include searching the scientific literature, scientific writing style, data presentation, writing lab reports, and preparing scientific presentations.

Improvement of skills for public writing, using Birmingham as geographical, historical, and institutional context. Emphasis on issues related to Birmingham's past and present, including the ethics and civic responsibilities of Birmingham residents. This course meets Blazer Core Curriculum City as a Classroom with a flag in Post-Freshman Writing.
