This course explores the history of rhetoric and introduces the theories of writing and major contributors in the field of Writing Studies. Note: This is a specialized upper division course about writing, not a writing course. Prerequisites EN 111/112 with a C or better; completion of required general education literature course or permission of instructor.

An advanced writing workshop requiring students to extensively write, revise, and edit their own work. This classrequires students to submit two completed pieces of writing by the end of the semester. Students must apply forthis course and have two clear projects to complete over the semester.

An extension of the EH 105 classroom, EH 115 provides individualized support to students through writing studio sessions in the English Department Writing Center. Students must pass EH 115 in order to make a C or above in EH 105. Grades: Pass/No Credit.

An extension of the EH 106 classroom, EH 116 provides individualized support to students through writing studio sessions in the English Department Writing Center. Students must pass EH 116 in order to make a C or above in EH 106. Grades: Pass/No Credit.

Addresses issues involved in writing for academic and professional settings. Topics include analyzing audience and purpose, addressing common writing problems, developing effective writing practices, writing for publication, communicating research to the general public, and productivity strategies for writers. One-day workshop. RECM 722. Storytelling and Narratives for Research Communication. 3 Hours.

A survey of the histories and structures of writing systems employed by human languages. There are several writing assignments in this course.

This on line course examines the three stages of writing technologies and their impact on personal writing processes. Central to this study is the composing of writing assignments via manual, mechanical, and digital means. Each student will compose one assignment with quill and ink, one assignment with a mechanical keyboard, and one assignment with a digital phone or tablet.

The purpose of this course is to prepare PhD students in the foundations of writing grants for external funding. The Course addresses the grants process and proposal writing in healthcare research using the NIH predoctoral application as a template. Strategies for successful proposal preparation including development of elements required in NIH research grant proposal are covered.

The purpose of this course is to guide students in the development of an internally consistent dissertation research proposal that can be successfully defended as they progress toward candidacy. In addition, students will explore strategies for discussing research results and their contributions to the state of the science and theory development. Students are to work closely with their dissertation chair and members of their dissertation committee while developing the proposal.

The purpose of this course is to begin to prepare students to undertake a major research study, specifically the dissertation. Requirements and expectations of doctoral candidates, as well as technology that can be used will be addressed. This course will assist the doctoral candidate to refine and/or define a dissertation topic and develop the rationale for a particular research agenda.
