A broad overview of the specialty of trauma nursing and the multiple factors that affect patient care in an emergency or trauma situation.

This course equips students to graduate from the certificate with practical application of content to their own area of expertise. Students will with practical application of content to their own area of expertise. Students will complete a project that is unique to their practice area and/or area of interest and outlines next steps for increasing trauma informed practice within their setting and/or within their own professional growth.

The objective of this elective is to provide exposure in the management of the trauma victim. The student will develop a working fund of knowledge and experience with prehospital emergency care, resuscitation, evaluation of the trauma victim, and critical care management. This rotation is meant to supplement the basic surgery elective by providing an acting internship that focuses on all aspects of trauma care.

A survey course designed to provide students with an overview of travel and tourism as an area of study. Discussions will center on tourism at the macro (regional and national) level. Tourist behavior, the social, environmental and economic impact of tourism will be highlighted.

A study of marketing, sales techniques, promotions, and advertising theories as applied to the travel and tourism industry. Exposure to the marketing mix relating to market segmentation, market planning, advertising and other communication techniques. Emphasis on role playing scenarios and consumer buying behavior. Product-service mix will be addressed.

Introduction to computer training using one of the major computer reservation systems for the travel industry. Emphasizing formats for a Passenger Name Record (PNR), availability for flight and accommodations. Including ticketing, fares, cancellations, and passenger name modifications by computer.

A continuation of the study of airline computer reservation systems. Emphasis on reserving cars and hotels, using queues, creating passenger profiles, interpreting air fares, rules, and routing, and explaining these to passengers. Explores international procedures.
